The City is starting the process of swapping out downtown parking meters from dual- to single-space devices in the paid parking area (see map).

The installation will start Monday, May 6, and is expected to take up to two weeks.

  • Two-hundred dual-space meters will be replaced with 400 single-space meters.
  • Dual-space meters will be relocated and installed in outlying areas of the city to be determined.
  • Moving to single-space meters in the core will streamline the current parking space reservation process and improve customer experience.
  • No impacts are expected to events, streets, or sidewalks during installation.
  • On blocks with active installation, parking customers will not be subjected to tickets for lack of payment. All other parking rules still apply.
  • A second round of swap-outs is expected for later this year.

“The only aspect of these new meters that will be different from the status quo will be that we’re changing from dual-space to single-space. Everything else, including functionality, rates, two-hour time limits and even the color (lilac) will remain the same. These meters will also not be installed in any new areas,” said Luis Garcia, Director of Parking Services.

There are more than 5,000 designated on-street parking spaces and more than 3,400 paid parking spaces in the city.
