Applications for Spokane’s Tourism and Cultural Investment grants will open on June 1.

These grants will be available in allocations of $5,000 to $10,000 for organizations working to bolster Spokane’s tourism and cultural environment. Funding comes from state law RCW 67.28.1817, which established a lodging excise tax that is paid per bed stay at local hotels. Revenue from that tax is then used to fund opportunities that increase tourism.

Recipients will be selected by the Tourism and Cultural Investment Committee, formerly known as the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, which has been dormant for the last two years.

Organizations, including non-profit agencies, for-profit agencies, and public agencies are eligible to apply and use the funds for projects, programs, events, and facilities that promote tourism and cultural investment.

“I am looking forward to the boost these grants will bring to Spokane. With the help of the newly resurrected Tourism and Cultural Investment Committee, these funds will help grow our local economy and bring people together with exciting events that celebrate our unique culture,” Mayor Lisa Brown said.

“These grant funds are an important step forward in putting Spokane on the map as a thriving cultural and tourism hub for people across the region,” said Councilmember Zack Zappone.  “Investing in these cultural opportunities will make Spokane a city that residents can be proud of, and tourists can enjoy. We encourage organizations to apply for these grant funds and reach out with any questions.”

"Thanks to Mayor Brown and Councilmember Zappone for reviving funding for festivals and events under the new Tourism and Cultural Investment grant,” said Visit Spokane President and CEO Rose Noble. “These dollars will boost our economy, enhance Spokane's culture, and link grant recipients with the overnight stays that make these grants possible. Events and festivals are crucial for attracting out-of-town visitors and enhancing our tourism offerings. We're excited to be part of this effort and pleased to see these funds support local businesses and cultural groups, elevating Spokane as a premier and diverse tourism destination.”
