In a unanimous vote, Council passed a resolution approving grants for the funding of youth sports using funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) fund.

The city received 20 applications and will award 5 applications for $50,000 each.  The recipients include:

  • If You Could Save Just One -- $50,0000
  • Spokane Eastside Reunion Association -- $50,000
  • 90 Plus Project -- $50,000
  • YMCA of the Inland Northwest -- $50,000
  • Union Futbol --$50,000

"Investing in youth sports is not just about providing a recreational activity; it's about fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience in our young people,” said Council Member Jonathan Bingle.  By funding these projects we are investing in the future of Spokane, ensuring that our children have opportunities they need to drive both on and off the field. I want to thank my colleagues, especially co-sponsor Council Member Navarrete for her tireless work and willingness to collaborate on this resolution.”

Council Member Navarrete added, “The ARPA money provides not only investment into our community but investment into our youth.  We’re empowering the next generation, and I wholeheartedly support strengthening the fabric of our community by promoting financial opportunities, especially in our underserved and often overlooked communities.”
