The Use of Force Commission submitted its response to the one-year progress report delivered on March 27 by Spokane Mayor David Condon and Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub.
In a letter signed by all five members, the Use of Force Commission organized its comments in four areas from its original report – Culture, SPD Policies and Practices, Civilian Oversight, and City Administration. The Use of Force Commission was generally pleased by the work done in each area, and concluded its letter by writing, “We continue to be impressed with the progress that has been made in implementing our recommendations for improvement.”
The Use of Force Commission made 26 recommendations in early 2013. The one-year update presentation to the Use of Force Commission was televised on City Cable 5 and is available online.
A final, two-year progress report to the Use of Force Commission is expected next March.
