We support Our Kids: Our Business

"As part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Our Kids: Our Business is a call to action for a region that supports a successful childhood at every stage of development. Each of us can do one small thing for a child or children in Spokane." – Our Kids: Our Business

For the past eight years the Our Kids: Our Business campaign has been calling Spokane to action to make a positive difference in the lives of young people in our community. The Spokane Fire Department is a strong supporter of this goal and provides a number of public education events that aligns closely with the campaign's ideals. These events are often held in local schools and are designed to reach children of all age groups. These events give us an opportunity to fulfill the campaign's "five promises to our children":

  1. Caring adults
  2. Safe places and constructive activities
  3. A healthy start and future
  4. Effective education for marketable skills
  5. Opportunities to serve

Throughout April we are reaching out to four schools with a variety of teaching methods that impact multiple age groups.

Balboa (April 15-16) and Audubon (April 21-22)

  • Hazard House (grades 1 and 2)
  • Children's Fire Safety House (grades 3 and 4)
  • "Fireworks and Flammables" lesson (grades 5 and 6)

Whitman (April 23)

  • Hosting a booth at Whitman's Safety Fair

Stevens (April 24)

  • Hosting a booth at Career Night

We provide educational courses like these throughout Spokane Public Schools during the school year and participate in local events all year round.

We encourage you to join us in support of Our Kids: Our Business by displaying a pinwheel in your yard this month.
