Spokane Mayor David Condon discussed a full slate of activities at this morning’s media briefing. Following is a summary.
- A great turnout over the weekend for Cleaning From the Core, which kicked off Spokane Gives Week. More than 400 volunteers came out to help get our city ready for the busy festival and tourism season. That’s more than double the number who came out last year.
- Public meetings are planned on Monday, April 28, from noon to 1 pm and Tuesday, April 29, from 5-6 pm to discuss next steps in the citizen Police Ombudsman Commission. Both sessions will be held in the City Council Briefing Center. Discussion topics will include desired characteristics of individual commissioners and the makeup of the commission as a whole.
- A volunteer advisory committee has spent the past year evaluating Riverfront Park, its current offerings and thinking about future enhancements. The Riverfront Park Master Plan Advisory Board has come up with several ideas and recommendations that it is ready to share with the community. The Spokane Park Board will host public comment sessions on Thursday, April 17, and Thursday, April 24 to discuss recommendations on new and existing park uses. Both begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall.
- Finally, a fun way for people to get involved with Bike to Work Week in Spokane, which is May 12-16. Commute of the Century is a group ride or self-guided tour of Spokane’s bicycle infrastructure over six routes across the City. This ride is meant for all riders, including those newly interested in commuting, somewhat experienced, or well-seasoned to riding Spokane’s streets. People can choose to participate at their own pace and on their own schedule.
