Being smarter about how we deliver critical services as we grow is an important component of Vision 2020, which Spokane Mayor David Condon outlined earlier this year. How we grow today as a city, as a county and as a region will shape the community for decades.

City Council President Ben Stuckart and Spokane County Commissioners Al French and Todd Miekle joined the mayor today to announce the first meeting in a collaborative process to establish parameters on how we plan for growth and develop as a region.

In the spirit of collaboration:

  • The City Council has put on hold pursuing further an ordinance to tighten down extension of city sewer and water services outside city limits
  • Spokane County has suspended its public records request while we are having the conversation
  • The City has agreed to stand down on annexation during this conversation
  • Spokane County has agreed to stand down on extending urban growth areas within the City's utility service area

This conversation between the city and county will be the next in the series of tough issues we have worked together on over the past couple of years. Others include animal control, solid waste and evolving the criminal justice system.
