Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Expo '74

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of Expo '74, the world's fair Spokane hosted in what is now treasured as Riverfront Park. Expo '74 was notable because it was the first world's fair with an environmental theme.

Expo '74 was a turning point for downtown Spokane. Without this fair, it's hard to imagine what our city would be like today! Before the renovations for the world's fair, downtown Spokane was home to miles of Northern Pacific Railroad.

Did you know? More than five million people attended this world's fair over the course of the six-month celebration! This was huge for Spokane because, at the time, we were the smallest city to host a world's fair!
