Spokane is among the most compassionate communities anywhere. That's why I know these 12 days will be truly incredible.

On what has become Giving Tuesday around the nation, we have launched the 12 Days of Giving Spokane. The City and its nonprofit service and corporate partners are challenging businesses, organizations, and individuals to give their time, talent, or treasures this holiday season.

Each day, we highlight a different area of need in our community. Along with that, we'll help connect you with organizations that provide a variety of services related to that need. The campaign focuses on everything from food and shelter to mentorship, health, and learning.

These twelve days give the Spokane community a way to energize its giving spirit. The need is all year round, but the holidays provide another opportunity to focus.

This is our first effort at capturing the momentum of national Giving Tuesday movement to make a local impact, but the focus behind the 12 Days of Giving is nothing new. The campaign is an extension of the Compassionate Spokane initiative launched successfully last spring with Spokane Gives. During that time, more than 7,000 volunteers gave more than 28,000 hours of service to our community. I'm excited to see what happens this time around.

Join us and help make a difference in Spokane.
