Just last month, Spokane was recognized again as a Bicycle Friendly Community. But the City isn't stopping there in its quest to make Spokane a better place for cyclists.
City planners are redesigning the bike map to make navigating Spokane more intuitive. Gone are classifications like “Bicycle Boulevard” and “Marked/Shared Roadway.” Instead, the map focuses on two pieces of information to help bikers more easily find the best routes: the amount of traffic and the presence – or lack of – a bike lane on a given path.
The City is also looking at design practices to make Spokane safer and more appealing for bicyclists. Ideas include:
