The Parks and Recreation Division is committed to giving every child in our community the opportunity to learn to swim. That's why we have partnered with the USA Swimming Foundation and the Spokane Parks Foundation to offer scholarships for FREE swim lessons at City pools through the Make a Splash program.
We have hundreds of scholarships still available for area children! Swim lessons are available at City pools throughout Spokane - A.M. Cannon, Comstock, Hillyard, Liberty, and Shadle Aquatic Centers.
Community members are invited to sign up as soon as possible by visiting https://static.spokanecity.org/documents/recreation/aquatics/swim-lesson-scholarship-application-2015.pdf. Turn in scholarship applications to the My Spokane desk at City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Questions can be directed to the Parks and Recreation Aquatics Office at 509.625.6960.
The USA Swimming Foundation's Make a Splash initiative is a national child-focused water safety campaign, which aims to provide the opportunity for every child in America to learn to swim. Through Make a Splash, the USA Swimming Foundation partners with learn-to-swim providers and water safety advocates across the country to provide swimming lessons and educate children and their families on the importance of learning how to swim. The USA Swimming Foundation has invested millions of dollars to provide grants to qualified Local Partner learn-to-swim programs, to spread national awareness, and to bring together strategic partners to end drowning.
Founded in 1952, the Spokane Parks Foundation offers grants and works with like-minded community organizations to ensure community parks continue to be healthy community assets. Their program Make a Splash In a Kid's Life is focused on providing quality recreational activities for local families in need. Through donations from the community, the Make a Splash In a Kid's Life program has been able to distribute more than 1,000 swim passes to local youth and has worked to ensure kids have swimsuits to wear to the pool.
