Council Member Lori Kinnear is working to update and replace the Historic Preservation & Demolition Ordinance under the Spokane Municipal Code.
The proposed ordinance enhances protections for historic landmarks and districts, as well as provides increased incentives and new funding for historic preservation, among other things. You can read the proposed ordinance online.
Council Member Kinnear will be hosting a community open house in the Board Room of the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture from 5:30 – 7 p.m. tonight, October 18. CM Kinnear, City of Spokane’s Historic Preservation Officer, Megan Duval, the City Council’s Policy Advisor, Brian McClatchey, and her Legislative Aide, Jake Fraley will be at the open house to answer your questions and gather public feedback.
This will be an open house event, so all are invited to drop in at any time between 5:30 – 7 p.m. and stay as long or short as needed. There will be suggestion box available for citizens to write their feedback on notecards so that their suggestions can be weighed as CM Kinnear and her team work to finalize the language of the ordinance.
A public hearing on this piece of legislation is anticipated to take place during a City of Spokane Plan Commission hearing on Wednesday, November 8 at 3:30 PM in the City Council Chambers (lower level, City Hall).
