Seeking Examples of SpokaneScape!

This year, we challenged our citizens to consider implementing a new approach to their landscaping to save water, time, and money. The water-efficient approach is called SpokaneScape and includes the replacement of lawn with drought-tolerant plant material and mulch that uses low-volume irrigation.

The City offered rebates of up to $500 to its water customers willing to implement the changes, and the response has been great. Hundreds of people attended education sessions, and dozens applied for the credits.

In celebration of a productive summer of water-smart landscaping, the City is hosting a SpokaneScape contest to give our customers an opportunity to win a utility bill credit in recognition of their hard work in conserving one of our most precious resources.

Proud of your water-smart yard? Would you like to be recognized for your work in support of water conservation and neighborhood beautification? If so, enter this year’s SpokaneScape Landscape Contest for your chance to win! All landscaping that meets the SpokaneScape ideals is eligible—whether or not you applied for the earlier rebate program.

Three prizes will be given in the amounts of $250, $150, and $100 as a utility bill credit. Applicants will be scored on the following:

  • Efficient Methods of Irrigation
  • Appropriate Plant Selection and Maintenance
  • Design
  • Overall Attractiveness

Entry forms can be downloaded on our website. The deadline to submit your entry is 5:00 p.m. on October 31st. Email to Kristen Zimmer, Water Stewardship Educator at kzimmer@spokanecity.org, or send mail or hand deliver to:
