Fall Compost Fair Goes Virtual

There will not be a Fall Compost Fair at the Finch Arboretum this October but you can still learn about composting fall leaves. The Spokane County Master Composters/Recyclers are bringing their Fall Compost Fair to the public in a virtual event. For one week, county residents can get great home composting tips in the online event and earn a free compost bin!

The virtual event will take place on a learning platform called LearnWorlds. Participants will need to go the city’s waste reduction classes page and enroll by creating a log-in and password. By choosing the Virtual Fall Compost Fair 2020 link when the event opens on Saturday, Oct. 24, participants can then access the content, but not before. Once you are signed up you can watch the videos, read content and take a very short quiz from Saturday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 30.

Once the quiz is submitted and passed, you can download a coupon which can be redeemed for a free compost bin. You must be a county resident to get the bin, IDs will be checked at pick up, and there is a limit of one per household. Coupons can be redeemed at the Waste to Energy Facility’s Administration Building, 2900 S. Geiger Boulevard between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the week of Nov. 2-6 or by special arrangement. Due to health concerns and the need for social distancing, this event will be the only opportunity residents can earn a free compost bin this year.
