Thanksgiving Is the Leading Day for Cooking Fires

Did you know Thanksgiving is the leading day for cooking fires? According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there are more than three times as many home cooking fires on Thanksgiving as a typical day of the year.

Stay safe this Thanksgiving with tips from the Spokane Fire Department.

  • Stay in the kitchen when cooking at high temperatures.
  • Use a timer as a reminder when food is simmering or baking.
  • Maintain a 3 foot (1 meter) kid and pet-free-zone around the stove.
  • Wear short or close-fitting sleeves while cooking on the stove.
  • Keep pan/pot handles turned towards the back of the stove.

This Thanksgiving share your cooking safety tips Nov. 24 – 26, 2020 on this Spokane Fire Department’s Facebook post for the chance to win dinner for four from David’s Pizza!

*Dinner for four includes a gift card for: a large pizza and four beverages, $40 value, good at Spokane area locations only. Four winners will be selected. Please only enter one time. Giveaway made possible by the Spokane Fire Department Foundation and David’s Pizza.
