The Spokane Police Department is committed to using data to drive decision-making and improve public safety. Through our process, we regularly analyze crime trends, identify emerging issues, and allocate resources to where they're needed most.

We believe in transparency and accountability. Sharing data with the public helps build trust, promotes collaboration, and empowers the community with timely and accurate information.

We're upgrading our report-writing system
In early October, the Spokane Police Department is moving to a new records management system, the software officers use to write and manage police reports. This upgrade is part of our ongoing work to modernize our technology and improve the quality and accessibility of our data.

What this means for our data dashboard
During the transition, our public crime data dashboard will not be updated for a short period while we connect it to the new system. We expect this pause to be brief, and we'll post an update here as soon as current data is available again.

Why some numbers may look different
Once the dashboard is back online, it will combine data from our previous system with data from the new one. Because the two systems organize and categorize some information differently, you may notice small differences in how certain numbers are counted or displayed, including for past time periods.

To make these changes clear, we'll publish a summary explaining what changed and why, so you can understand any differences you see and compare data with confidence.
