Six-time convicted felon arrested for firearm possession

Spokane Police Patrol Officers arrested 45 year old John R. Burnham, a 6 time convicted felon, after responding to a report that he was pointing a large gun at two other people. Officers located a shotgun at the home as well as Methamphetamine.

Officers responded to the 800 block of S. Cowley on Friday on a call of a person with a weapon. While at the residence, officers located Burnham and saw a .410 shot gun. Officers wrote and executed a search warrant for the residence and seized the gun. Burnham has 6 previous felony convictions for crimes such as Burglary, Vehicle Theft, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. It is illegal for a convicted felon to possess a firearm.

This arrest demonstrates the commitment of the Spokane Police Department to reduce crime by quickly responding to calls, thoroughly investigating incidents, and arresting individuals who pose a danger to our community.

This investigation will be reviewed and considered for federal prosecution by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The Spokane Police Department has an ongoing partnership with the ATF. SPD Targeted Crimes Detectives work jointly with ATF agents to aggressively prosecute all firearm related crimes.
