Release of Name of Ofc. Involved in the Shooting of an Assault Suspect

The Spokane Police Department is releasing the name of the officer involved in the shooting of 1st Degree Assault Suspect Craig S. Burton.

The involved officer, Senior Police Officer Nick Spolski, has more than 7 years of experience with the Spokane Police Department and currently works as a Patrol officer.

Prior to his time as a Spokane Police Officer, Officer Spolski spent four years in the US Marine Corps. As a marine, he was a Marksmanship Instructor, Combat Instructor, and Water Survival Instructor. He served in a number of operations including combat, non-combat, and humanitarian aid operations as well as completing a short tour in Afghanistan.

Officer Spolski is currently a member of the TAC (Tactical) Team and the Defensive Tactics (DT) Cadre at the Spokane Police Academy.

Officer Spolski has received the following awards & commendations:

  • 2014 Chief’s Citation Award for his work as part of the DT Cadre as they updated and revised DT instruction for the entire department, taught SPD’s Enhancing the Survival Mindset classes for civilians, and made numerous instructor certification accomplishments.
  • Received Commendations in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 for his compassionate and helpful assistance to victims of a burglary, his assistance in apprehending a burglary suspect within an hour of the crime, his assistance in another burglary investigation, and the compassionate, fair and insightful manner in which he handled a domestic dispute.
