Suspect with female and child passengers in his vehicle attempts to elude SPD, crashes car and flees the scene of the incident. He is found and arrested the following day.
On November 14th, 2020 around 1:45pm the SPD Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT) attempted to stop a car near the area of Illinois and Perry. The car initially pulled over before speeding away in an attempt to elude officers. Officers made the decision not to pursue the suspect vehicle.
Officers were advised that there was a female passenger and child in the car as well as the suspect.
A short time later, the suspect was heading southbound on Perry and struck a car that was crossing Perry on Indiana. The victim vehicle, which was occupied by an elderly female, spun and struck the front of an STA bus that was waiting at the intersection. Both the elderly female and the bus driver received minor injuries.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and the suspect dumped the car near Nora and Columbus, leaving the female and child behind. The car and its occupants were quickly contacted by other PACT members and responding officers. The suspect that fled the scene was identified as Nicholas Giltz (31).
Major Crimes collision investigators responded and processed the scene.
On November 15th at around 3:00pm the PACT team was able to locate Giltz near the 400 block of E. Kiernan and placed him under arrest for Attempting to Elude, Vehicle Hit and Run Injury, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended License.
