Update 12/14/22:

SPD continues investigation into downtown robberies,  second suspect arrested

On 12-13-22, SPD officers assigned to the Downtown Precinct along with members of the Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) arrested a 17-year-old male for 1st degree Robbery .  The arrest stems from the continuing investigation into two armed robberies which occurred in the evening hours of 12-7-22. The investigation is on-going; investigators are still working to identify and locate additional suspects and more charges are possible.

Update 12/8/22:

This evening (12-8-22) members of SPD’s SWAT team, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) took a juvenile suspect into custody on charges of robbery and assault stemming from two incidents that occurred on 12-7 in Downtown Spokane (see original release below). The investigation is on-going.  

Original Release 12/8/22:

SPD investigating two evening robberies in downtown area

On 12-7-22 between 6:00PM and 6:30PM, SPD responded to two armed robberies of pedestrians in the downtown area. The first occurred in Riverfront Park near the Howard St foot bridge. A pedestrian was approached by a group of individuals, one of which was reportedly armed with a handgun, and robbed of personal items.

About thirty minutes later, a second victim was walking in the 800 block of W Main Ave when they were approached by two individuals. A suspect brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s belongings. During the incident the suspect swung the knife at the victim causing a non-life-threatening injury which was treated at the scene by medics.
