Original Release: SPD searching for suspect after patrol car rammed, brief pursuit halted due to dangerous driving by the suspect

On 4-6-24 at 12:25pm, SPD responded to the area of 1000 East Sinto Avenue in regards to a trespassing incident involving a white van in an alley way.  As the officer arrived, the suspect vehicle was still in the alley.  The officer activated the patrol vehicle emergency lights in an attempt to contact the suspect van and driver.  An unknown occupant left the vehicle before another male suspect got in the driver’ seat, drove forward and rammed the patrol vehicle with the officer still inside.  The suspect was revving the engine before striking the officer’s car.

The actions of the suspect driver constitute a felony assault against the officer.  The patrol vehicle that was intentionally struck was temporarily disabled from the damage.  The suspect vehicle also struck a concrete wall before fleeing the scene.  A citizen helped the victim officer fix the damage to make the patrol car drivable again.  Responding officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but the suspect refused to pull over.  A short pursuit commenced, but was called off due to the dangerous driving actions of the suspect who drove into oncoming traffic.  The suspect vehicle was eventually located in the Mead area, but was abandoned.   Officers identified the suspect driver responsible for the felony assault against the officer, but have to yet to locate him.   The suspect is Ryan P. Todd (27)

Probable cause has been established to arrest Todd for 2nd Degree Assault, Attempting to Elude A Police Vehicle and 1st Degree Malicious Mischief.  Todd has extensive criminal history with prior felony convictions for Eluding A Police Vehicle and 3rd Degree Assault.  If you have information on the whereabouts of Todd, please contact the Tip Line at 509 242-TIPS (8477) or SPDtipline@spokanepolice.org
