On June 18th, 2024 just before 8:30am, Spokane Police responded to the area of 1500 E Illinois Avenue after 911 was advised a male had threatened another person with a machete.  The incident began when a community member confronted a man after observing him stealing a bottle of water from the location.  The suspect produced a large edged weapon (machete) when he was approached by the community member before fleeing the location on foot.  Witnesses advised the suspect raised the weapon over his head in a threatening manner before leaving the location.  The community member chased the suspect before he stopped and brandished the machete again while making threats.
