UPDATE:
An adult male has been booked for several charges in relationship to last night’s stabbing. Colin L Pedro (20) was booked for 2nd Degree Assault (DV), 2nd Degree Assault, and 2nd Degree Murder. We are still asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have video of it to please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
As a result of the investigation into last night’s stabbing, MCU investigators were able to determine that the surviving victim was in a dating relationship with Pedro. That victim received substantial injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. As of this release, it is unclear what, if any relationship there was between Pedro and the homicide victim.
Officers responded quickly to calls for assistance and in holding to our community’s expectations safely took Pedro into custody. He was booked into Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Assault (DV), 2nd Degree Assault, and 2nd Degree Murder.
This is still an ongoing investigation but there is no current danger to the community. We are still asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have video of it to please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
This was a tragedy that affected many people in our community, from the victims to their families and the witnesses to the incident. Tonight, August 7, 2025, just before 6:30pm, Spokane Police were called to a report of three subjects fighting near the 800 block of west Spokane Falls Blvd. It was initially reported at least one subject may have been stabbed. Officers quickly responded to the scene and an involved male was found on the Post Street Bridge threatening suicide. Another person was found with serious injuries nearby.
Numerous resources were called to the scene including SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), the Air Support Unit (ASU), and the Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU). American Medical Response (AMR), Avista, and the Spokane Fire Department’s water rescue team also responded and staged near the location. The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has responded to process the scene.
One of the persons involved in the altercation was pronounced deceased at an area hospital. One other sustained injuries but is stable. After nearly 4 hours, just before 10:15pm, HNT was able to deescalate the situation on the bridge and officers detained the involved male without further incident. This is an ongoing and very preliminary investigation. Anyone with video of the incident who has not already been contacted by police is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
