Bike Theft Prevention

Bikes are easy targets – but there’s a lot you can do to protect yours.

Lock It Right

  • Use a solid steel U-lock – not a cable lock.
  • Secure both the frame and wheels to a fixed object.
  • Remove quick-release components when possible.
  • Park in well-lit, high-traffic areas.

Top Tip: Most stolen bikes were either unlocked or poorly secured with a thin cable lock.

Make Recovery Easier

  • Register your bike online and keep a copy of the serial number.
  • Take photos and engrave identifying info on key parts.
  • Store bikes inside a secured area whenever possible.
  • Hide a tracking device on the bicycle or in the seat tube.
  • File a report by calling the non-emergency line: 509.456.2233 or submit one online.
