Car Prowl Prevention

It only takes seconds for a thief to break into a car. Most car prowls are crimes of opportunity. Keeping valuables out of sight – and out of the car – is your best protection.

Don’t Tempt Thieves

  • Never leave valuables visible, even if you’re “just running in for a minute.”
  • Hide items before you park, not after.
  • Never leave garage openers in your car.
  • Avoid leaving bags, backpacks, or even loose change on seats.

Smart Parking Tips

  • Park in well-lit areas with foot traffic when possible.
  • Leave exterior lights on overnight if you park near your home.
  • In garages, wait for the door to fully close before walking away.
