Police Cadet Program

SPD Cadets in the Community

Cadets are comprised of individuals ages 18-24 years old. If enrolled and attending school, you must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Cadets are committed to volunteering 20 hours per month. Training sessions are every other Monday.

Cadets assist Spokane Police Department at community events such as Hoopfest, Bloomsday, Lilac Parade, and others.

When Cadets reach a level of proficiency and experience, they are allowed to ride with an officer on patrol. Cadets can advance to a Level 2 which allows them to assist patrol officers with cold report calls (burglaries, hit and run collisions, pick up found property etc.).

Level 2 Cadets receive advanced training on non-emergency vehicle operation and are qualified to take and drive a vehicle out on patrol to respond to non-emergency calls.

Cadets have opportunities to train and be promoted to positions of leadership roles and responsibilities.

Those interested in the Cadet Program may attend a training to see if you would like to become a Cadet. To schedule and attend a training session, email volunteer@spokanepolice.org or call Volunteer Services at 509.363.8283. After you attend the training, you can download and electronically fill out an application. Email completed applications to volunteer@spokanepolice.org.
