Citizen Volunteers

The Citizen Volunteer program is a service program that augments and assists the commissioned and non-commissioned members of the SPD in the performance of their duties. This program includes anyone age 18 years and older with a high school diploma or equivalent. We need people that enjoy working with the public, have people skills, are problem-solvers, and have basic clerical skills or computer knowledge. Areas you can work are Police Administration, the Police Academy, Records Division, or the Investigative Unit. Jobs include:

SPD Senior Volunteer
  • Working at one of the Precinct’s Operations Service desks
  • Data entry
  • Property pickup
  • Investigations follow up
  • Community partnership events
  • Delivering and picking up mail between City sites
  • Working the information booths at the Public Safety Building and Courthouse Annex
  • Working the front desk at the Public Safety Building
  • Working the front desk at the Academy and the investigative office
  • Provide community safety awareness and resources talks
  • Assist in community events such as Bloomsday, Hoopfest, Lilac Parade, and others

Non-emergency reporting of potholes, graffiti, or unlawful camping, utility billing, and general information on city services: call 311 or report online

Social Services
Social services and community resources like housing, food, and employment help: call 211
