The Spokane Police Explorer Program is partnered with the Boy Scouts of America under their Learning for Life Program. Explorers are comprised of high school aged individuals 14-18 years old. There are two Washington State Law Enforcement Explorer Academies (WLEEA) a year (August and December). Explorers are encouraged to attend both and mandated to attend one of the academies.
Explorers help at community events such as Hoopfest, Bloomsday, Lilac Parade, and others. When Explorers reach a certain level of proficiency they are allowed to ride with an officer on patrol. Those interested can attend a training to see if they would like to be an Explorer.
Those interested in the Explorer Program may attend a training to see if you would like to become an Explorer. To schedule and attend a training session, email volunteer@spokanepolice.org or call Volunteer Services at 509.363.8283. After you attend the training, you can download and electronically fill out the application.
