Fiske and Fifth Corner

Liberty to Edgecliff Improvements for Accessibility

This collaborative application to US Department of Transportation’s Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) Grant Program will focus on reconnecting neighborhoods and restoring communities divided by transportation infrastructure. The applicant team includes the Spokane Transit Authority, the City of Spokane Valley, and the City of Spokane. The application focuses on communities along Interstate 90 in east central Spokane and western Spokane Valley by improving access to transit through facility improvements for walking, bicycling, and rolling.

Purpose of the Neighborhood Access & Equity Grant

The purposes of the Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program, provided by the US Department of Transportation, include:

  1. Improving access to daily needs such as jobs, education, healthcare, and services.
  2. Fostering equitable development and restoration.
  3. Reconnecting communities divided by highways and other transportation facilities.

The Neighborhood Access & Equity Grant, provided within the broader Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods program, focuses on improving walkability, safety, and affordable transportation access by addressing existing transportation facilities that create barriers to community connectivity.
