A family of five was displaced after a fire damaged a home in the Northeast neighborhood this morning.
The Spokane Fire Department, as well as units from Spokane County Fire District 9 and Spokane County Fire District 1, responded to the 4800 block of N. Freya St. around 8 a.m. to a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, fire crews advised of heavy fire involvement in the rear of the home and smoke throughout the single story residence. The fire was immediately upgraded in order for additional resources to respond to the incident. Firefighters worked to quickly to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading further.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family (one adult and four children).
The fire caused substantial damage to the rear of the home and smoke damage throughout. The Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit is working to determine the cause.
Fire crews will remain on the scene throughout the day to monitor the home.
