The Spokane Fire Department responded to the 8600 block of N. Colton St. just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The homeowner called 9-1-1 to report that a fire had been set inside the attached garage of their single-family residence.
Upon their arrival, responding crews reported thick smoke from the garage and upgraded the response in order to request additional resources. Fire crews from the City of Spokane and Spokane County Fire District 9 located a fire on the interior of the attached garage of a split-level home. Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to the interior of the residence. The structure was rapidly searched for occupants as crews made an attack on the seat of the fire. It was determined that the residents had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The fire caused substantial fire damage to the garage and smoke damage throughout the interior of the residence. The Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit worked to document the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
