At 0700 hours on Wednesday, Feb 26, 2020, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a report of smoke issuing from the windows of a 3-story residential structure near Stone and Main streets. This was a large home that had been converted into 4 apartments units.

SFD arrived within 4 minutes of the original dispatch and reported smoke showing from the 2nd floor of the structure. Firefighters quickly advanced inside and extinguished the fire on the 2nd floor. The fire, however, had already advanced up the inside walls and began to burn the 3rd floor and spread into the attic, completely engulfing the attic within minutes.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the SFD Special Investigations Unit. All of the residents and their pets were evacuated and are being assisted by the Red Cross. One resident was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.? No firefighters were injured.
