At approximately 12:05 on Wednesday, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) received 911 calls reporting fire coming from Cruz Custom Boots at 209 West Main Avenue.
First-arriving companies reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the commercial structure. The building was occupied at the time of the fire and is considered mixed-use, meaning that residential apartments are connected to the commercial occupancies.
Initial companies making entry into the fire were challenged with large amounts of supplies and materials stored in pathways throughout the building. With additional resources and time, teams were able to locate the main body of fire on the mezzanine level while also searching and ventilating the structure.
The SFD saved the majority of the structural components and contents. The total value of the building and contents saved is estimated at $150,000. The nature of the fire was accidental, and the cause was determined to be an electric hotplate. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians as a result of this incident.
