The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a residential fire at 0811 this morning in the 5500 Block of West Sarah Court. Neighbors called 911 after seeing a large amount of smoke billowing from the home's top floor and roofline. At the time of the 911 call, neighbors identified the homeowner's car in the driveway but could not locate the occupant.

When SFD companies arrived, they made entry to the single-family residence and simultaneously searched for victims while containing the fire to the room of origin. Firefighters had a lengthy task to overhaul the fire area and confirm that the fire did not extend into the attic. The home owner was contacted this morning and is safe. There were no injuries to either fire personnel or civilians as a result of the incident.

While the fire did have a significant head start on firefighters, the neighborhood fire company (Engine 17) arrived within 5 minutes and their actions remarkably reduced the loss from the fire. The quick work of firefighters saved an estimated $350,000 of property and contents. The nature and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
