Thursday, Dec. 10, 5:08 pm, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to the 6900 Block of North Wiscomb to a fire inside an apartment. Initial arriving companies reported light smoke coming from the gable end of the attic space as they arrived. The first arriving company on scene identified the fire's cause originating in a ceiling fan. The fire had rapidly spread into the building's attic prompting an upgrade to a working fire.

Companies were able to pull the unit's ceiling, which allowed them access to the fire. Using hose lines, companies knocked down the fire and limited the fire's spread and overall damage. The fire was extinguished within 10-minutes. Several fire companies worked quickly evacuating civilians to safety from adjoining units.

No civilians were injured; however, the Greater Inland Red Cross assisted four adults and one infant. The SFD's Special Investigations Unit determined cause to be a malfunction of an electric bathroom ceiling fan.
