On Friday evening, August 20 at 10:44 PM, Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to the 6000 Block of North Royal Drive in Spokane's north side to a report of a single-family dwelling on fire.

SFD companies arrived quickly and were directed to the rear of the structure by occupants. They discovered an exterior fire that had already spread into the residence with flames extending from the lower floor to the attic. The incident was subsequently upgraded to a working fire and additional resources were summoned.

First arriving firefighters rapidly coordinated the evacuation and medical care of occupants who had fled the structure. Additional SFD, and an auto-aid company from District 9, worked together to confined the fire and completed searches of all rooms and floors to ensure any remaining occupants were outside and safe.

Despite significant heat and smoke resulting from the fire, there were no injuries.

As a result of the fire and a need to secure utilities, the structure is untenable. Assisting the residents in their need for temporary housing and help were volunteer staff from Greater Inland Northwest Red Cross. Despite the damage to the building from the fire, SFD saved countless possessions and much of the structure which will likely undergo renovation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by SFD investigators.
