At approximately 2am this morning neighbors called 911 after hearing loud noises and seeing flashlights in the back of the home located at 7th and Altamont, in the lower south hill.
A large fire was discovered and quickly spread through the entire house causing serious damage to it, and extended damage to the home next door.
Firefighters responded within minutes of the call to find the home fully engulfed, and flames impinging on the structures nearby. Units of the Spokane Fire Department were able to bring the fire under control quickly and conducted a search for victims. Fortunately, no one was injured in this fire.
Multiple remodeling’s of the home over the course of its long life created many hidden spaces that required firefighters to remain on scene into the late morning hours today to ensure there were no hidden fire remaining.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Spokane Fire Departments Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the Spokane Police Departments Major Crimes Division.
