The following is an update from the Spokane Fire Investigation units for three recent incidents. With the exception of a status change in an ongoing case, this notice will be the final release on these events.

5/7/2022 3200 (Block) West Boone Avenue

Cause: Electrical, Overloaded Circuit

Fatality: Adult male occupant

5-9-2022 200 (Block) East LaCrosse Avenue

Cause: Remains undetermined

Injury: One adult female occupant was rescued by neighbors and transported to the hospital. Four total occupants are displaced.

Discussion: The fire originated on the home's east side wall at a shed. Based on forensic evidence, the fire's behavior included rapid development at the base of the home consuming the contents of the shed and extending up the wall to the home's top floor. As the fire grew on the exterior, large windows were breached by the heat, allowing the fire to easily enter the home's first and second floors, attic, and concealed spaces. Arson has not been ruled out as a cause of this fire and it remains an active investigation.

5-8-2022 1900 (Block) East Marshall Avenue

Cause: Electrical, defective equipment.

Injury: One adult male transported to the hospital. Eight total occupants are displaced.

Discussion: The origin of the fire was a defective/malfunctioning kitchen light.
