The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a fire in the early hours of November 21, 2023, at a residence in the 4000 block of West Queen Avenue. The incident, reported at approximately 12:20 AM, involved a one-and-a-half-story single-family home.
Upon arrival, the first units on the scene observed a fire in one of the home's bedrooms on the first floor. A total of 27 firefighters responded to the call, quickly implementing a coordinated attack to tackle the blaze. The team initiated an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously conducting a comprehensive search for any occupants.
The search confirmed that no occupants were in the house at the time of the fire, and the first engine rapidly controlled the blaze. Although the second floor was inaccessible from the interior, the SFD crews easily accessed the attic space to extinguish a limited amount of fire that had spread there.
The prompt and efficient response of the firefighters ensured that the fire was confined and extinguished without spreading further, preventing more extensive damage to the property. No injuries were reported among occupants or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. This incident highlights the readiness and professionalism of the Spokane Fire Department in responding to emergencies day or night and safeguarding the community.
In light of this event, the SFD would like to remind residents of the importance of fire safety and the need for working smoke alarms in every home. Early detection of fires can significantly reduce the risk to life and property.
