A number of events are planned in Spokane to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year. Here's a quick look:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 15, 10 a.m. – Spokane Falls Community College Martin Luther King Jr. Day speaker, Music/Performing Arts Building auditorium, Build 15, SFCC, 2410 W. Fort George Wright Drive.   • Thursday, Jan. 16, 10 a.m. – Spokane Community College Martin Luther King Jr. event, Lair Student Center Bldg 6, SCC, 1810 N. Green St. Guest speaker is Darryl Brice, sociology instructor, Highline Community College who will talk about “Bread and Circuses: Exploring the Legacy of the 'Real' Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” For information, call 509.533.7378.   • Saturday, Jan. 18, 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. – King Day Youth Empowerment Luncheon & Silent Auction, Shadle Park High School, 4327 N.   • Monday, Jan. 20, noon to 12:45 p.m. – “I Have A Dream” speech delivered by the Rev. Percy “Happy” Watkins, Providence Holy Family Hospital, Health Education Center, lower level. Free.

  • Monday, Jan. 20, 3 to 3:45 p.m. – “I Have A Dream” speech delivered by the Rev. Percy “Happy” Watkins, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, Mother Joseph Room L-3. Free.
