The Spokane Council has narrowed its list of candidates to fill the open District 3 seat to five and scheduled a public interview for Aug. 13.

Adrian Dominguez, Julie Griffith, Eric “EJ” Iannelli, Melanie “Kitty” Klitzke and Karen Stratton are the five finalists to replace former Councilmember Steve Salvatori, who resigned his seat last month. The City Council will interview the finalists on Aug. 13 from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Briefing Center in the lower level of City Hall. The public is invited.

Council President Ben Stuckart will be available at 2:30 p.m. today in the Chase Gallery to discuss the candidates and the process. Copies of their applications and the selection tally sheet will also be available.

Council members reviewed the applications of all 22 applicants and submitted their top five lists to the council president. A committee comprised of councilmembers Stuckart, Mike Allen and Candace Mumm reviewed and compiled the council member rankings and determined the top applicants for interviews by entire council.

The full council, in open session, will vote to fill the vacancy on Aug. 18. District 3 encompasses the area north of the Spokane River and west of Division Street. Candidates must have lived in City Council District 3 since Aug. 18, 2013.
