City Councilmember Mike Allen will host a public forum on short-term rentals Wednesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The forum will focus on a proposed ordinance change.

Short-term rentals are defined as a rental less than 30 days and are not currently permitted outside of commercial zones within the City of Spokane.

“Before any legislation moves forward, we need to go the public again for additional feedback” said Councilmember Allen. “Neighborhood Councils, the Plan Commission and the stakeholder group have weighed in, but there are more citizens out there who have not had a chance to voice their opinion.”

The City engaged in an almost year-long process to develop a draft ordinance to permit short-term rentals within the City of Spokane along with a stakeholder group comprised of representatives from the hotel/motel industry, City staff, neighborhood representatives, bed and breakfast owners and short term rentals operators.

The forum will be televised on CityCable 5 and streamed online at SpokaneCity.org. Citizens are encouraged to attend and provide feedback.
