Local schools to compete during Spokane Gives Week

Local students are taking part in the Spokane Gives University Challenge later this month. The students from Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Spokane Community College, and Whitworth University will complete service projects during Spokane Gives Week (April 25-May 3) in a friendly competition.
The 2nd annual Spokane Gives Week, part of the Compassionate Spokane Initiative, is a community-wide initiative designed to encourage year-round volunteerism. The City will once again engage nonprofit organizations, businesses and individuals in Spokane in an effort to make Spokane the most compassionate city in the nation.
“This year, our local universities are getting involved in a greater way to show that the next generation of leaders in Spokane is also committed to serving our community,” said Mayor David Condon. “Spokane Gives and its message of service align very well with the missions of these universities and all that they bring to Spokane.”
The school with the most service hours per capita will be crowned champion.
Spokane Give Week kicks off Saturday, April 25 with Cleaning from the Core (CFTC). Dozens of other Spokane Gives projects have been posted to VolunteerSpokane.org and hundreds have already signed up.
Last year, more than 7,000 volunteers logged 28,400 hours at 106 events in support of the Spokane community. The City’s goal for this year’s Spokane Gives Week is to double the total volunteer hours.
