The City of Spokane is looking to recruit Law Enforcement officers and Firefighters. City representatives will attend the Public Safety Career Fair on Friday, May 8 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at the Spokane Red Lion River Inn (700 N. Division St.).
The free career fair hosted by Public Safety Testing (PST) is one of three being offered around Washington state this spring (fairs are also being held in Vancouver and Renton). People can learn about public safety job openings with hundreds of agencies and attend mini-seminars.
Earlier this year, the City’s Civil Service Department approved using Public Safety Testing of Lynnwood, WA, to provide written entry testing for Police Officer and Firefighter classifications as well as physical agility testing for the Firefighter classification. Spokane now joins more than 200 Washington agencies currently using outside vendors to provide Civil Service testing for Police and Fire. Civil Service will continue to be the entity responsible for creating and certifying eligible lists for these positions for the City of Spokane.
The agreement with PST can provide for more frequent testing, larger candidate pools, and greater candidate diversity as the City continues its efforts to gain the best candidates possible for Police Officer and Firefighter positions. The testing, which can be offered at least once a quarter now, will still operate under Civil Service requirements. In addition, the City will offer one free test every year, in keeping with the City Charter mandate of providing free testing for candidates applying to the City of Spokane (free testing used to occur only once every two years).
Over the past four years, there has been an average of 508 candidates per year who have taken either the Police Officer or Firefighter written tests when they have been offered by the City.
The Firefighter test for the City of Spokane is being offered this year on May 9, and will be held at the Red Lion River Inn, 700 N. Division Street. Please visit www.publicsafetytesting.com for information about registering for the test.
