Lisa Keys Named City Planning Director

After an aggressive recruitment process, the City of Spokane is excited to announce Lisa Keys as the new Director of Planning. The City underwent an extensive candidate search nationwide. The City Council was very involved with the job description process and will confirm Keys at the Council Session on Monday, Jan. 11.

As Director, Lisa’s responsibilities will include direction and oversight of growth management, comprehensive planning, neighborhood planning, sub area development master planning, and project planning.

“We are very excited to have Lisa join our team. The breadth of knowledge and comprehensive experience that she brings to the Planning Department will be a great addition to this department as well as to the City,” said Scott Simmons, Director of Business and Developer Services.

Lisa received her Bachelor of Science & Administration degrees from Pennsylvania State University. Her previous work included planning project management; state, regional, and local transportation planning; comprehensive planning; drafting of development code; and grant writing while managing at David Evans. Additional experience while at the City of Hayden and as the Hearing Examiner in Kootenai County includes operational management of Planning, Building, and Engineering Service Departments.

Lisa brings over 30 years of experience participating in Land and Community Planning, Comprehensive Plan development, and Strategic Planning within city government. Her grant writing experience has resulted in over $35 million worth of state and federal funding grants being awarded for a variety of community development, economic development and infrastructure, and parks projects. Her extensive experience brings with her a dynamic and professional presence that will complement the management team in Business and Developer Services well.
