Since 1973, the month of May has also been known as “National Preservation Month.” This is a great time to showcase the social and economic benefits of historic preservation in and around Spokane and Spokane County. The Historic Preservation Office for the City/County of Spokane has some wonderful events planned to celebrate Preservation Month in our region (http://www.historicspokane.org/preservation-month-2016).

  • Win a totally unique “historic experience” in Spokane! Complete our Architectural Scavenger Hunt and put your historic knowledge to the test. You’ll be automatically entered to win one of several “historic experience” prizes which include: a guided tour of the historic Spokane County Courthouse, complete with a trip to the top of the iconic “Courthouse tower”; a behind-the-scenes tour of the Masonic Temple; two tickets to Spokane Preservation Advocate’s Historic Home Tour in the fall; or a private tour of the Undercliff House in the Marycliff-Cliff Park Historic District – check out our website for additional information: http://www.historicspokane.org/scavenger-hunt-2016
  • Learn about the history of your home by participating in our House History Workshop! The Spokane Historic Preservation Office is teaming up with the Northwest Room at the Downtown Public Library and the MAC to sponsor the workshop. Learn all the ins-and-outs of researching a building including where to find information on former residents, historic pictures and so much more! The workshop will be on May 20th from 10 to 12. Be sure to register early as space is limited – find the registration information on the Spokane Public Library’s calendar.
  • Celebrate Spokane’s rich architectural heritage at the Preservation Happy Hour event! In honor of the Steam Plant’s centennial, we’ll be hosting the event at the plant on May 26th from 4:30 to 6. There’ll be a fun presentation on preservation success stories from the past year and a video on the history of the Steam Plant. Mingle with fellow preservation-lovers in one of Spokane’s iconic historic buildings! The $20 price tag includes appetizers and a drink ticket, too! Space is limited, so sign up soon!
  • Show your support for preservation in Spokane and attend a city or county council meeting and hear our local Proclamation for National Preservation Month!
