The recruitment period for Spokane’s next police chief closed Wednesday night with 31 candidates applying for the job, including eight who listed Washington addresses.

Strategic Government Resources, an executive recruiting firm, has begun its first review of applicants with the intent of identifying finalists for the community to meet this summer. The police chief search conducted in 2012 yielded 16 applicants over two recruitment cycles.

SGR contacted its network of more than 30,000 law enforcement professionals and recruitment materials were forwarded to Spokane Police Department employees for consideration. Advertisements ran on job boards, industry newsletters and association sites, including:
