Olympia, WA – The City of Spokane will be honored with a Municipal Excellence Award from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) at their Annual Conference in Everett June 21-24.

The City of Spokane won the Innovative Management category for the Targeted Investment Strategy. Spokane renewed and expanded its target investment approach to economic development using four pillars including revitalization planning, target area development, financial incentive planning, and economic development assistance.

“AWC’s recognition is wonderful encouragement as we continue a targeted approach to economic development through key areas of the city,” said Spokane Mayor David Condon. “The honor is also testament to the amazing City staff we have moving these efforts forward.”

Out of more than 50 entries, Spokane’s entry was one of five projects selected to receive a Municipal Excellence Award. The awards are presented to cities that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in innovative city projects.

“The Municipal Excellence Awards highlight the innovation coming out of 281 strong cities across the state of Washington,” said AWC CEO Peter B. King.

Entries from 2000 to the present are profiled in AWC’s online Municipal Excellence database, which includes project summaries and contact information.
