A selection committee reviewing police chief interview and application materials will meet tomorrow to narrow down the candidate pool to a list of finalists.

Search firm Strategic Government Resources will conduct background checks on each of the finalists during the first half of July. The list of finalists is expected to be announced on July 15.

On-site panel interviews will be conducted by community representatives on July 20. Mayor David Condon will review feedback and recommendations following those interviews, and expects to select Spokane’s next police chief within a few days. The selected chief will go before the City Council for confirmation, likely in early August.

Earlier this month, the selection committee worked with SGR to narrow the list of 31 candidates to 10 semifinalists. Over the past week, members of the selection committee individually reviewed responses submitted by semifinalists to a written questionnaire and a recorded interview answering questions prepared by SGR.
