In observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 5, Spokane City Hall will be closed along with other City facilities, including the garbage transfer stations and the Waste-to-Energy facility.

Parking meters don’t have to be plugged on Labor Day, and garbage pickup and curbside recycling will be a day late all week after Labor Day with Friday’s pickup occurring on Saturday. The City’s Municipal Court also will be closed.

Spokane Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5. The Eastside, Hillyard, and Indian Trail library branches also will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 6, because those branches normally are closed on Mondays so the holiday is observed on Tuesday.

The Spokane City Council has cancelled its meeting for the week of Sept. 5. The Council will meet next on Monday, Sept. 12, for its regular 3:30 p.m. briefing session and the 6 p.m. legislative session. The Council meets in the City Council Chambers in the lower level of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Meetings also are shown live on CityCable 5, the City’s government-access cable station, and on the web at www.spokanecity.org.

Meanwhile, the Riverfront Park attractions, including Spokane Falls Skyride, Pavilion rides, and Carousel, are open throughout the weekend and on Labor Day. Pig Out in the Park, featuring lots of food and music, also is scheduled Aug. 31 through Sept. 5 in the park. To accommodate the construction in the park, this year’s Pig Out event is planned for the Imax and Clocktower meadows and the Lilac Bowl. The weekly Farmers Market in the park is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3. Go to www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com for information.

The City aquatic centers are closed for the season, but splash pads and golf courses will be open throughout the weekend. The Aquatics Hotline is 625.6960.

The monthly First Friday artwalk is scheduled for Firday, Sept. 2. The Spokane Symphony performs at its annual free Labor Day concert in Comstock Park on Monday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m.
